When Bonnie discovers what her fiancé has been up to, a fresh start is needed. As if it isn’t hard enough to help plan her friend’s wedding instead of her own, Bonnie is trying to repress her attraction to the best man, Theo Wharton, an actual duke who seems to have walked right out of one of Bonnie’s beloved Jane Austen novels. In the meantime, I think I’ll hold of on continuing the series for now.Bonnie Blythe is maybe slightly jealous that her best friend, Cassie-introduced in Getting Hot with the Scot (2019)-is about to get married to a man she has known less than a year, while Bonnie’s fiancé and childhood sweetheart refuses to set a date for their nuptials. Johnson shows flashes of brilliance here, and I’m sure she’ll only improve as time goes on. I enjoyed their personal journeys, but overall I was pretty underwhelmed. They didn’t spend a lot of time together on page, and I think that’s why the romance didn’t pull me in. There wasn’t the emotional pull I expected after their scenes in the previous book and the early part of this novel. I really liked the chemistry between them, but overall I found the romance lacking.

I didn’t love the first book in this series, but I was very interested in finding out more about Bonnie and Theo, whom we met in Getting Hot with the Scot. Will Bonnie have the courage to risk her heart and turn the page with the dashing Brit to find her true happy ending after all? Just as Bonnie begins to believe she's falling in love, an eye-opening revelation into Theo's life makes Bonnie feel like she's wandered into one of her favorite books. When fate places Bonnie in England for a summer-conveniently close to Theo-she realizes a hot friends-with-benefits fling is exactly what she needs to start a fresh chapter. With his brilliant blue eyes, sexy accent, and irresistible charm, Theo Wharton is like a romantic hero straight out of a Jane Austen novel.
